PIANO

Pianists are master multitaskers. The skills necessary to work both hands independently can only truly be honed by mastering the piano. Not to mention, as a student’s skill increases, they essentially become their own band! These are just some of the reasons why piano makes an excellent first instrument. Students may begin individual instruction as young as 3 years of age. For further details on our curriculum, please refer to the Our Curriculum page.

GUITAR

The guitar is both a melodic and percussive instrument. With its unique voice and rich timbre, the acoustic guitar in the hands of a creative mind has unlimited possibilities. Our recommendations for guitar are built around the experience and maturity of the young musician. As a general guide, we recommend guitar lessons begin around the age of 8. For younger students interested in beginning guitar lessons, we recommend either beginning with our ukulele or piano programs. For further details on our curriculum, please refer to the Our Curriculum page.

UKULELE

The small fingerboard and four strings make the ukulele an amazing introductory instrument for the guitar. It is also an excellent instrument for voice students. The ease at which a student can learn a few basic chords allows them to be their own accompanist while they practice. Students may begin individual instruction as young as 4 years of age. For further details on our curriculum, please refer to the Our Curriculum page.

VOICE

Voice lessons are not just about singing, but can also increase confidence that can be used in real world applications. In lessons, students will learn proper breathing techniques and learn how to engage muscles on command for support. Students will also learn how to expand the limits of their voice range, how to sing with healthy technique for any genre, and prevent injury. VIOLIN/VIOLA

Violin and viola lessons are offered to all levels of students from the ages of 8 and up. Beginner students will start with fundamentals such as learning the parts of the violin, bowing and proper finger placement. Students will discover their potential of producing a good, controlled, solid sound of the violin and viola which will be presented in an understandable and enjoyable way. Potential students are highly encouraged to take piano for a minimum of 2 years prior to and/or in conjunction with taking string lessons. This is to help train intonation and gain a better understanding of music theory. For further details on our curriculum, please refer to the Our Curriculum page.

EARLY CHILDHOOD MUSIC EDUCATION

There are significant benefits to exposing children to music at an early age. While some children are ready to begin private lessons at the age of three, some might need more time in a group setting. Our early childhood music classes are available in a group format for our Little Mozarts (ages 0-2), Little Beethovens (ages 3-4), and Little Chopins (ages 5-6). Children work on learning the vocabulary, producing sounds and basic rhythms, learning about the staff, and singing using the Kodály method. This curriculum lays the groundwork towards a successful transition to learning an instrument. For further details on our curriculum, please refer to the Our Curriculum page.

Stewart Music Studio can bring any of our individual programs to your school and enrich the school’s curriculum with before and/or after school programs.
